Charlie Lund is an illustrative black and grey tattoo artist and co-owner of Prana Tattoo Studio in Bondi Beach, where she works alongside fellow artist Josh Marx. Her work spans realism and custom script, built on a lifelong fine-art practice in sketching, painting and sculpture, with eleven years of that discipline now spent on skin.
Her painting work continues in parallel: Fortitude is Power, her portrait of Lynette Riley, was recently acquired by the NSW State Library’s permanent collection. Her tattoo work has been featured in Tattooed Kulture, Worldwide Ink, and on Triple J. Charlie works closely with each client to design pieces built to last, both technically and as compositions worth wearing for a lifetime.
The whole act of creation and emotion is something that can never be superseded by technology. The bond and connection I share with the special humans I get to tattoo is deeper than the hours spent together. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person I’ve tattooed only once. We often share years of watching one another grow, developing concepts and co-creating new versions of them, ever evolving. That is what is so sacred to me. I want to honour all of that, what surrounds the art as well as the art itself, to deliver the best artwork.
