TATTOO
AFTERCARE
After completing a tattoo, Cling Film or Second Skin Adhesive Bandage will be applied to cover the tattoo.
Both processes require different attention so please note the difference below.
-
The cling film will be applied directly after your tattoo by your artist and is to be left on for 1.5 hrs - 2 hrs maximum post tattoo procedure. At no stage should you rewrap your tattoo again yourself.
Once you arrive home or in a clean environment (this does not include locations such as public restrooms) you can remove the wrap with thoroughly clean hands, have a shower or directly clean the area with cool/lukewarm water, gently removing the excess plasma and ink residue. DO NOT use soap or exfoliants.
Pat the area dry gently with a clean towel and allow the tattoo to air dry on its own, uncovered without any intervention.
DO NOT apply any cream the first night of your tattoo
DO NOT apply cream the day after your tattoo. Wait until the first evening after your tattoo (night 2 or 3) of having your tattoo to apply the cream .
Each day shower as normal.
DO NOT soak your tattoo in the shower. Allow slow running water to flow over the tattoo but not for extended periods of time. Ensure the temperature is not too hot - warm is fine.
DO NOT Submerge your tattoo.
DO NOT swim in the ocean, pool or spa & no saunas or steam rooms.
A pea size amount of cream is more than enough for the freshly tattooed area, unless otherwise specified.
Apply 1 x times per day. 2 x only if essential, at least 6 hrs apart. (Eg. morning and evening after cleansing and aerating the tattoo.)
DO NOT exceed the recommended cream size or number of applications . This can lead to the tattoo being too wet inhibiting healing and preventing the skin to breathe. The application should always be transparent - not cloudy or foggy.
You will notice around day 4 - 6 your tattoo will begin to flake or have develop tiny scabs.
DO NOT prematurely remove any scabs or pick your tattoo.
DO NOT pick, scratch or itch your tattoo. (it will be itchy when it's healing, this is normal.)
Continue the cream routine for 10 - 12 days. The tattoo will begin to settle around day 12. All tattoos are completely settled after 1 month, in regard to tones and subtleties .
DO NOT expose your tattoo to the sun within the 12 day healing period (and do not cover the area with wraps or bandages while healing to return to the sun) you need to wait until the tattoo is completely healed.
ALWAYS apply sunscreen on your tattoo once it is 100% healed. This is roughly 2 - 3 weeks post appointment, no sooner or you can damage your tattoo.
-
Second skin adhesive tattoo bandage is applied by the artist directly after the completion of tattoo at the end of your appointment .
Leave on for 3-5 days without removing.
DO NOT Submerge your tattoo
DO NOT Swim in the ocean, pool or spa and no saunas or steam rooms.
DO NOT pick or peel the second skin bandage prematurely.
DO NOT wrap or bandage over the tattoo/ second skin bandage in any way after application.
If the second skin remains intact and undisturbed, DO NOT attempt removal until day 4 or 5 maximum.
REMOVE second skin if the seal breaks early (eg. blood, ink or plasma leaks out of the second skin and has loosened over the area or around the edges.) If this occurs, the second skin bandage needs to be removed immediately to prevent bacteria forming between the tattooed skin and bandage. This can sometimes occur after be after the first day and is okay. This just means the aftercare process will commence earlier.
To remove the second skin bandage, with clean hands, get in the shower and peel it slowly and gently in a downward motion from top to bottom. (eg. If the tattoo was on the leg, this would mean knee to ankle.)
With thoroughly clean hands, directly clean the area with cool/lukewarm water, gently removing the excess plasma and ink residue. DO NOT use soap or exfoliants.
Pat the area dry gently with a clean towel and allow the tattoo to air dry on its own, uncovered without any intervention.
